Numerous researchers have made discoveries and inventions that are useful for mankind. This page is dedicated to them and a small attempt at highlighting their life and work through illustrations.
Maud Menten
Born in Port Lambton, Ontario, Canada, Maud Leonor Menten was the first Canadian woman to get a Medical Doctorate. She was a talented painter, linguist, inspiring teacher, a diligent pathologist and above all a very passionate researcher. Along with Leonor Michaelis, Menten went on to study the activity of enzymes and came up with the famous "Michaelis-Menten Equation" that gave rise to the field of enzyme kinetics. Besides this she has also made discoveries related to blood sugar, hemoglobin and kidney functions.
Ramon Y Cajal
Santiago Ramon Y Cajal was born in Petilla de Aragon, Spain. Once an aspiring artist, Cajal went on to become the "Father of neuroscience". He is best known for studying the fine anatomy of the nervous system with the help of a modified silver nitrate stain and make free hand drawings depicting the neuronal anatomy. Cajal along with Camillio Golgi received the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology in 1906 for their contribution to understanding the structure of the nervous system.
Marie Curie
Marie Sklodowska Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland. Along with her husband Pierre Curie, Marie Curie discovered the radioactive elements Polonium and Radium. Nobel prize was awarded to them for their discovery of radioactivity. She is the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize and the only woman to win it twice. During World War-I, Marie Curie along with her daughter Irene, devoted themselves to provide X-Ray services to field hospitals. She intentionally refrained from patenting the radium-isolation process so that the scientific community could carry out research unhindered.

Salim Ali
Dr. Salim Ali was raised by his uncle in Mumbai. From a young age, little Ali would buy birds, study them, write notes and then release them. He would even study birds and their eggs in a nest. Having difficulty in understanding math, Ali spent most of his time exploring jungles and the animals that lived in it. Later, he took up the study of birds, called Ornithology. To study the birds, he would go on motorcycle trips to far of places. In this way Dr. Ali became the first person in India to carry out a detailed study of the different variety of birds. For his dedication to preserving the birds, Dr. Ali has received numerous awards.
